BoatRun — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 June 2026
BoatRun is a set of personal rowing performance tools (Metrics, Analyser, Coach). This page explains what data BoatRun collects, how it's used, and how to delete it.
What data is collected
- GPS location — recorded only while a session is actively running, to calculate speed, pace and distance.
- Motion sensor data — phone accelerometer, used on-device to detect stroke timing and technique metrics. Raw sensor data never leaves your device.
- Heart rate — if you connect a heart rate strap, or import a Garmin FIT/TCX/GPX file.
- Session data you create — stroke rate, pace, distance, and related rowing metrics generated from the above.
Where data is stored
- On your device — all session data is saved locally in your browser first.
- Your Google Drive (optional) — if you sign in, sessions are backed up to a hidden app-data folder in your own Google Drive. This folder is private to BoatRun and not visible in your normal Drive view. No one else can access it.
- Firebase (Coach mode only) — if you join a squad session, your live stroke rate, pace and name are broadcast to your coach's screen in real time via Firebase, for the duration of the session. This is not stored permanently.
Strava integration
If you choose to connect Strava, BoatRun requests permission to upload activities on your behalf. We use this only to create a Strava activity from a session you choose to export — nothing is uploaded automatically or without your action.
- BoatRun does not read, store, or analyse your existing Strava activities or profile data beyond what's needed to complete the upload.
- You can revoke access at any time from BoatRun's settings, or directly at
strava.com/settings/apps.
What is never done with your data
- No data is sold or shared with advertisers or third parties.
- No analytics or tracking scripts are used.
- No ads.
Deleting your data
- Local data — clear it from BoatRun's in-app settings, or by clearing your browser's site data for this page.
- Google Drive data — use the "Delete my Drive data" button in Metrics settings (while signed in) to permanently delete all session files from your Drive app folder. Revoking access at
myaccount.google.com/permissions stops BoatRun from reading or writing the folder, but does not delete files already stored there — deletion must be done from within the app while signed in, since BoatRun has no separate server access to your Drive.
- Strava connection — disconnect from BoatRun settings or from Strava directly; this also deletes the stored access token.
